Eating and drinking is a huge part of studying abroad! Being able to discover restaurants, bars and the local food is of the key benefits of study abroad. It allows you to immerse yourself into the culture, heritage and cuisine of your chosen study abroad destination
The New York Bar at the Park Hyatt Tokyo, which is the famous bar which featured in the movie ‘Lost in translation’ is beautiful, classy and elegant, and I would recommend stopping by!
Here is why:
Here is a backstory, personally I went to this bar not knowing that the bar was featured in Lost in Translation, so perhaps I may not have had the initial appreciation for the bar in which others may have had when entering (Sorry).
That being said, the experience was amazing and it was probably one of my favourite bars in Tokyo! Regardless of the Bar’s fame, being that it was the place where Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson met during the movie, the atmosphere, sofiticaticon and customer service was second to none!
However, anyone who is familiar with Japanese hospitality sector will know that respect, and politeness is extremely highly, and it is hard to find a place with a rude waiter or bad service. If you want to test this out, go to your closest authentic Japanese restaurant in your town and you will find out!
Anyway, back to the New York bar, the restaurant not only provided amazing customer service, but the performance by the pianist and live singer was amazing! I managed to sneak a video without looking too much of a tourist. For example, the lady was singing Adele, Emeli Sande, Whitney Houston! (If you wish to see more images and videos, check out my instagram.)
Overall, it was a great evening, I mean even if you just wanted to go to for the live music I would not blame you! As the singers, musicians as well as the view of Tokyo make it an unforgettable evening and the fame of the bar makes it extra special!
